Constance Walker

Connie Walker is an associate scientist at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Trained as an astronomer, she has been a science education specialist by trade for the last 10 years. She works with students of all ages, educators and the general public on preserving dark skies and how to address issues of light pollution. She directs the GLOBE at Night citizen-science campaign that encourages people all over the world to record the brightness of their night sky. She is working with others to promote dark skies activities for Global Astronomy Month.

Seth Shostak

Seth Shostak is Senior Astronomer at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California.  With degrees in physics and astronomy from Princeton University and Caltech, he has a long history of research in radio astronomy and SETI. 

He is a frequent guest and commentator on radio and television, and is the chair of the International Academy of Astronautics SETI Permanent Study Group. 

In addition to his research, Seth has written approximately 300 popular articles on science and technology, hosts the SETI Institute’s weekly science radio show “Are We Alone?”, and is the author, most recently, of “Confessions of an Alien Hunter: A Scientist’s Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence” from National Geographic, and a textbook on astrobiology, “Life in the Universe”, published by Addison-Wesley.

Proposition: We could very well find evidence for intelligent extraterrestrial life within a few dozen years.

Dave Crawford, IDA founder

David Crawford:  Retired astronomer from Kitt Peak National Observatory, in Tucson AZ, where he did research, technology, and management, and also the retired founder and Executive Director of the International Dark-Sky Association.  However, still an activist for an effective and efficient nighttime environment in all its aspects.

Mark Hammergren

Mark Hammergren is an astronomer at the Adler Planetarium. His research interests include asteroids, comets, meteorites, and their effects on life on Earth, and the history and sociology of the flying saucer phenomenon. He directs the Astro-Science Workshop, a summer program for science-interested high school students currently in its 49th year, and cofounded the Adler’s Far Horizons citizen space exploration team.
