What is a Super-Moon?

Like a Harvest-Moon or a Blue-Moon the Supermoon is more of a cultural phenomenon rather than an astronomical event.

November’s super moon will appear bigger than it has been since January 1948,  the moon will appears (slightly) larger than an average full moon. We won’t see the full moon this close again until Nov. 25, 2034

perigee versus apogee

When the Moon reaches Full on November 14th at Perigee it distance will be about 356,500km (from the Earth’s center). This is the closest Full Moon since January 26th 1948, which was about 356,500 km from Earth and until November 25th 2034 356,450km.

This special broadcast is a part of the Bareket observatory educational activities, among their Astro-EDU network, Mars remote control robot, live earth dial, virtual telescope, astronomical remote labs and more…
